My friend and I arrived at the hotel late on Friday (after driving 7+ hours) and the hotel was hosting a party that night. Eliot Porter published more books, and is considered the pioneer of the coffee-table book of nature photography. The Sierra Club published a book of his photographs with quotations from Henry David Thoreau, and it did quite well. Eliot began to exhibit in Stieglitz’s gallery, and eventually he quit his job and pursued photography full time. Fairfield introduced Eliot to Alfred Stieglitz, who encouraged him to work harder.
His brother Eliot was a biochemical researcher at Harvard who took up photography as a hobby.
